Season For Burgers

Since it's summer I have gotten into making my own burgers. We had a going away party for the student living with us so I made roasted red pepper(I roasted them myself)and goat cheese burgers. They were fantastic! I will be making them again in the near future, that's for sure!

Today I decided to try a couple more idea's I had brewing. The best part is my uncle Les was nice enough to mail me his camera he wasn't using so I took pictures of it all! Let the fun begin!

This is my usual setup before I start cooking. Laptop and speakers for music and today I added a fan because it's SO hot here. I usually listen to music but a lot of the time I'll watch TV and movies off of Netflix.

This is my kitchen. Nice and clean and ready to get messy.

Pepper before roasting.

Green onions for one of the burgers.

Mango Coconut Burger

Ground beef

Bread crumbs

Blue Cheese Burger
Ground beef
Blue Cheese
Green Onions
Garlic
Salt
Pepper

Egg

Both burgers mixed up.

Roasted pepper done. I set my oven to broil and put it up to 500f and put the pepper on the top level. I rotate it every 7 min until all sides are done. Then put it in a bowl with a tea towel over it while it cools down. This is so it's easier to peel the skin off. The skin should just peel off and the seeds will be easy to take out too. DO NOT RINSE IT! It will take all the flavor out if you do.

Patties all done.

Sauteed mushrooms in garlic, butter and balsamic vinegar. For the burger.

Roasted green beans and cherry tomatoes in garlic, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper for my salad.

In the toasted oven they go!

I decided to make the blue cheese burger.

End result! An awesome dinner complete with an Alexander Keith's Red Amber Ale.

A close up of my salad. I put the roasted pepper in it too with a simple balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil dressing.

Burger all done topped with the sauteed mushrooms, balsamic mayo and romaine. I love balsamic vinegar if you haven't noticed!

I ate it all! It was fantastic!

I will make the mango one tomorrow and let you all know how it went. If you have any suggestions of burgers you've tried out let me know! I would love to try them!

Mary Anne Rudy catering

Last Wednesday I was asked by an artist friend, Mary Anne Rudy, of my moms to cater her art opening at the art gallery my mom works at. Of course I said yes and I'm glad I did! Everyone really liked everything I made even before they knew who's daughter I was.

On the menu was an antipasto board which had dried figs, a mixture of olives, three kinds of cheeses, two meats and pickles.
Second was a sushi platter that was beets and cream cheese, asparagus and a sweet sesame sauce and my regular yam, avocado and cucumber.
Third I made a chickpea and roasted vegetable mix in a chimichurri sauce on an endive.
Last but not least, with the help of my friend Brad, we made home made chips that we put arugula and home made gaucamole on. Here are some pictures Brad took of the event.

Tell me what you think!

Trending!

My sister  made a blog entry about things that are trending with her. She asked me to do the same. At first I thought "Well, I  have a food blog so things that are trending with me won't really apply to it." but I was wrong! Here are five things that are trending with me and have everything to do with food.

PVR(Personal Video Recorder...I think?): I am a huge fan of TV and movies. I have Netflix and PVR everything! I really like reality TV and comedies but I have been PVR-ing my favorite cooking shows and shows about food. One of the two shows I PVR is Chucks Day Off. It is hosted by Chuck Hughes who tapes the show in one of his two restaurants. The idea of the show is that he has his day off(obviously)and cooks for people he knows. I've made a few things from his show but my proudest has to be his Legendary Turducken. The other show I've PVR'ed is a show my friend Lyndon actually started called Chefs Run Wild. It stars three guys from Winnipeg who travel around Asia learning local cuisine. It's interesting, informative and fun to say the least.

Bacon grease: After making a package of bacon for breakfast SAVE YOUR BACON GREASE! I have been using it instead of butter when making soups or even putting it on my toast when making an egg in a basket.

Aprons: I know this isn't really a trend but it is to me. At work I've always worn an apron but for some reason I never used to wear one at home when cooking which proved to be a huge mistake. I have a bad habit of wiping my hands on my apron so I started wiping my hands on my clothes at home! I found these hostess aprons on elizabeth W's website. They're adorable! My birthday is July 16th by the way...

Blogs and tumblr: I LOVE looking at pictures which is why tumblr is so amazing to me. I read(watch?) Jo Fuertes-Knight's who also has a great blog on Vice called Girl Eats Food where she makes food like baked bean gnocchi.
My friend Sabrina also has a great tumblr where she post pictures shes taken. A lot of the pictures of from all over Winnipeg and also of the food she makes.

What are some things trending with you? Let me know!

Don't worry!

I am still here! This month has been very busy so I haven't had the chance to update at all but just to show you I'm still here, I will share some great food themed pictures with you that I've been collecting over the months. Why not?

 Om nom nom nom!

I love rice

Last night I couldn't find a water bottle so I brought a cup of water with me in the car. I usually put my phone in the cup holder so after using it I plopped it right into that cup of water. WHY?! It is now sitting in a bag of rice and will hopefully be ok to use in a day.

This is what brings me to why I love rice so much. I love all kinds of rice AND it serves a purpose other than eating. So rice, here's to you. For always being there for me.

Be...our...guest!

This weekend it was Hyun Ju's(our home stay student from Korea)birthday on Friday and Sunday it was my mom's birthday. Needless to say we ate well all weekend and have plenty of left overs.
Friday Hyun Ju invited people from her school and church. We ate burgers, hot dogs, chicken burgers, pasta salad, thai noodle salad and this Korean dish I forget the name of but Hyun Ju makes it a lot and it's soooo good! Then for desert we had pineapple cupcakes and marble chocolate cupcakes.
Here is a picture of the kids and then me in the background haha

Sunday I made sushi and my mom made teriyaki chicken wings and chow mein. For desert my auntie brought this fantastic vanilla coconut cake and our neighbor Susan got my mom a rich chocolate cake. Both nights were great but I feel like I ate enough for two people all weekend!

All of these dinner parties made me think of this song...

Easter is next weekend and my mom is letting me make the whole dinner! I'm really excited. What do you usually have for Easter?
